		<description>That's very strange.  You shouldn't need proxying, not for mod_rewrite.  Just symlink /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/rewrite.load to /etc/apache2/mods-available/rewrite.load, then restart apache.

Job done.  At least that's always worked for me, at least once on Feisty.  I guess it may depend on which type of apache worker you're using, but that seems unlikely.

Oh.  Hang on.  I think maybe the [P] in your rewrite rule is telling it to use a proxy.  have you tried [L]?</description>
