The Java looks like it might have been a red herring BTW - I'm knuckling down and taking the time to learn VC.</description>

Why not use &lt;a href="http://pyrorobotics.org/" rel="nofollow"&gt;PyRo&lt;/a&gt;, or any one of the many bits of &lt;a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robot_software#Robotics_Software_Projects" rel="nofollow"&gt;robot control software out there&lt;/a&gt;?

No sense reinventing the wheel when it comes to control I/O.  Unless of course you're interested in wheel design - but that leaves less time to spend playing with it's BRAIN, which is clearly the fun bit  :)</description>
