Shag antlers

An inspired phrase I heard at a recent performance of the Nimmo Twins, and oddly for them a joke that works equally well outside Norfolk and not intended to specifically take the mick out of poor souls from Ipswich (and they have a not too polite version of what IPSWICH stands for!).

What are ’shag antlers’? The tatoo sometimes seen on womens lower backs that can suggest they’re up for it.

Backslashes

Over the few years I’ve been recruiting developers I’ve developed a few tricks to filter out the true geeks from the wannabies. Now of course I’m not going to publicise them here in case any contender is doing some research (although perhaps I should reward excessive initiative) but I came up with a new one the other day I might just try out - see if they laugh at gags from xkcd such as this one - pure genius!

The Machinist

I watch quite a few films, and most are just enjoyable ways of passing time, but occasionally one comes along that surprises. Biggest shock ever was the Sixth Sense - but that’s another story.

In a similar vein, I didn’t see the ending of the Machinist coming and so I have spent some time since watching it trying to figure out how it got me. Very clever stuff.

Is he a psycho, or hallucinating or is there something supernatural going on … I won’t spoil it for you - go see it.

Mobile bloody phones

OK, I’m so cross I’m inspired to blog!

I’ve had a few phones in the past - each gaining in sophistication on the previous model - an experience I’m sure I share with many people. The phones are now trying so hard to be more than just a phone - email, pda, mp3 player, modem …

I’ve currently got a Sony Ericsson K750i which was quite cool when I got it (aren’t they all?) and it did a job. But I always regretted putting the bloody CD in my computer to install the ‘PC Suite’ - the computer has run like a dog ever since - it never did what it said it would do (sync stuff up etc.) so I basically gave up - and stick to treating the thing as a phone.

But the little joystick nipply thing first stopped going down, then stopped period. Common problem I gather. I ‘acquire’ a spare phone and go to try and copy all my settings, contacts, ringtones, games etc. from one to the other - so I’m back in the world of the PC Suite and now I’m REALLY CROSS!

Whoever came up with the idea of mobile bloody phones and tried to make them clever?

I wish I was one of the few who refuse to use the frigging things!
